Data point: To stay healthy, consumers seek happiness
Our October trend report, “Health and Happiness: Hand in Hand,” explores the idea that people are coming to regard happiness as a key component of health. In a survey we conducted in the U.S. and U.K., close to half of respondents said being happy is something they personally do to stay healthy, not much less than the percentage who say they exercise regularly to stay healthy. And a majority cited key components of happiness such as spending time with friends, having a positive attitude, and making time for interests and hobbies. American respondents were slightly more apt than British respondents to cite being a happy person (51 percent vs. 44 percent). And in both countries, the two older generations (Boomers and Silents) were more likely to connect happiness with health than the Millennials and Gen Xers.
