Old toys are getting tech twists.
Several examples of Toys for Tablets, one of our 100 Things to Watch for 2012, popped up at the American International Toy Fair in New York last week. Among them was Hasbro’s new Game of Life zAPPed, which adds a digital twist to the Life board game. Players use the traditional board but spin a virtual wheel on an iPad using the related app, which “brings your game to life as you move around the board.” There are even clips from America’s Funniest Home Videos, which players unlock if they land on the right spaces.
Mattel’s upcoming Apptivity range consists of toys, made from conductive plastic, that can control what happens in iPad games when placed on the tablet’s screen. Toys include classics like Hot Wheels, while games include popular app titles like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja.
