New apps help you share video clips.
We put Video-grams on our Things to Watch list for 2012, noting that “just as Instagram has transformed the way people show off their smartphone photos, new apps are doing the same with smartphone video.” The Wall Street Journal recently wrote that tools like Socialcam, Viddy and Mobli are “the newest phenomena in mobile apps.” These apps allow users to easily add cinematic filters and music to video clips, then share them; as with Instagram, users can also follow anyone of interest. A few brands have been quick to test these new waters. Ad Age reports that they include General Electric, Discovery Channel (to promote Shark Week), PepsiCo’s Sierra Mist and Brisk, and Diane von Furstenberg. Celebs like Britney Spears are there too.
